What is Dancing Stage/Dance Dance Revolution (DS/DDR)?
| What is it? |
DDR, or Dance Dance Revolution, is surprisingly enough, a dancing game for 1 or 2 players.
In Europe, the game is known as Dancing Stage, with Dancing Stage Euromix and Dancing Stage
Euromix2 being the two european releases that you are most likely to see in your local arcade,
with games like Dancing Stage Party Edition and many others for your home console.
| What does it look like? |
The game is meant to be played on your feet and standing up. Each player uses a pad made up of four arrows (up, down, left and right), as seen on the left. |
| How do I play? |
| The point of the game is to step on the correct arrow as it rises from the bottom of the screen up to the top of the screen, where there are four corresponding grey arrows.
As you can see on the image on the right, the game does come with instructions on how to play.
Each song has a set sequence of arrows, which will go with the beat of the music. This sequence will in a sense make you dance to the music being played. |
| But I have never played before, or heard the songs... |
There are a variety of songs for people to choose from, and also different difficulty levels, such as:
- Beginner (for those first time players)
- Light (for those with a bit of experience under their belt)
- Standard (for those slightly better players among you)
- Expert (for those players who have either plenty of natural talent, or have spent alot of time playing)
- Challenge (for the creme de la creme of players out there)
| Style Select? How do I play against someone else? |
There are 3 different game modes, Single, Versus and Double.
Single mode, the mode you will play the most if you are playing on your own. This mode is for one player only. |
If you like to challenge a friend or anyone for that matter, versus mode lets two of you play on different pads, the best score wins! |
If you are feeling lucky, or would like to try a different style, why not try doubles! -- This mode lets one player use both pads at the same time! |
| How do I know how well I am doing? |
Depending on your timing and accuracy of your steps, you will get a different grading for each step:
- Perfect (for 100% accuracy and timing)
- Great (for steps that were just off)
- Good (for steps that were a bit more off)
- Boo (for steps that were alot off)
- Miss (for steps that weren't stepped on)
